Win Number 10 for Mistinquett

March 14, 2001 AAP

Coffs Harbour apprentice Zac Purton gave Sydney racegoers an example of his talents when he rode his first metropolitan winner at Randwick today.

The 18-year-old, who is the leading apprentice in the Northern Rivers region and also leads the overall premiership, plans to move to Sydney at the end of this season.

With floodwaters ravaging his local area, Purton drove 11 hours to get to his first Randwick meeting for a dream result when he steered Mistinquett to victory in the Prelate Hcp (1400m) for Tamworth trainer Tim Martin. ``It's my first time at Randwick and my first ride for Tim so it's very exciting,'' Purton said. ``I had to detour through all the floods to get here but it was worth it.

``At first she (Mistinquett) didn't want to come out of the pack but once she got out she went to the line strongly for a good win.'' Mistinquett held off a determined late charge from Shakatail by a half-neck, with Royal Works a long neck away third.

Purton said he hoped to be able to come to Sydney more often over the next few months but his priority was winning the Northern Rivers' premiership.
