Ferment (3 g Husson (ARG) x Catalyst (USA)) claimed his third win this prep in the $85,000 Tab.com.au Hcap (1500m) as he continues to show improvement for John Thompson.

The galloper is maturing and his confidence growing at his Randwick base, a scenic spot that overlooks the city. And this new relaxed attitude has been the key to his progression.

Despite being back against older horses he showed good speed and staying power to cut down his rivals in a pulsating finish.

It was a big effort against the older horses, noted jockey Nathan Berry, who put the horse ahead in the right place on the line.

Foreman Andre Rabbett backed up these sentiments:

I think in each one of his wins the last 50m has been the best part of his race. He is improving with every run. He wobbled around in the straight, but once he changed legs and Nathan got him balanced he made good ground in the last couple of strides.

The chestnut was a $60,000 purchase as a weanling from the Stratheden Stud draft at the 2010 Queensland MM National Weanling sale. And hes accumulated $204,100 already to reward the companys investment.

The breeder, Judy Marheine of Stratheden Stud, will yet again benefit from this win as she will receive another $10,000 as part of the $1m Breeders Bonus. The scheme allows any two or three-year-old by a Patinack Farm stallion winning in the city to claim the bonus, to be split between owner and breeder*.
