Gold Coast Royal Academy colt Blue Diamond material
May 31, 2005
One of the best yearlings in quality and potential presented at sale by the very successful Stratheden Stud of Tamworth appears to be the youngster they have listed as lot 126 in the yearling section of this month's Gold Coast series. An August 18 foal, it is by one of the world's best sires of this time, Royal Academy, and is the first foal of Renowned Artist, a half-sister by record breaking Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Peintre Celebre to1997 Blue Diamond winner Knowledge. Also a half-sister to the good Danehill Hong Kong winner and Group1 placed Multidandy, Renowned Artist is from New Acqaintance, a winner of the Listed AJC Carbine Club Stakes, third in the Group 3 Roman Consul Stakes and fourth in the Group 1 Caulfield Thousand Guineas. This colt's sire Royal Academy is one of the most likely sources of top notch racehorses available in Australia. One of the Coolmore contingent, he has about 110 stakes winners all told including top performers in Australia, Europe, North and South America and Hong Kong. His stock here have included Bel Esprit (winner of the Blue Diamond Stakes and Doomben 10,000), Kenwood Melody (Caulfield Guineas) and Phoenix Park (AJC T.J. Smith Stakes; fourth Golden Slipper). In recent weeks the Royal Academys have been adorning the winners stalls on a number of major tracks in the northern hemisphere. One of them, Bullish Luck, confirmed his status as Hong Kong's best miler when he collared previously unbeaten Silent Witness near the finish in winning the Group1 Champion Mile on May 14, and another, Macbeth, set a new track record of 2.24.58 for 2400 metres in taking a Group1 event at a Brazil meeting the next day. Royal Academy has four yearlings in the Gold Coast catalogue with the others being a colt from the Woodman mare Ranghiroah (USA) on account of Collingrove Stud and two fillies, one from the well related Luskin Star mare Luskin's Jewel being submitted through Bowness Stud and the other a product of Snoozette, a half-sister to the dam of Canny Lad, Sister Canny and Sister Canny which is entered by Trevannah Stud, Blandford. Breeders should be keen to get the Royal Academy fillies and also his seven daughters which are in the broodmare section at the sale. One of his daughters went to Danehill to produce current champion sprinter Fastnet Rock. Brian Russell Bloodstock Media Service
