Stratheden sires move to new Victorian stud

May 31, 2005

Two high class Australian gallopers raced by the Marheines of Statheden Stud,Tamworth have been transferred to a new stud set up under the name of Cherokee Rose Stud at Lancefield in Victoria by astute Melbourne owner and breeder Danny Rose.

Both tough sound racehorses with a fine turn of foot and the stamina to run well at Group level in middle distance races, they are the Gai Waterhouse trained Danehill product Manner Hill (fee $5500) and the John Size prepared eye-catching near black Vitrinite ($3300).

Winner of six races from1100 metres to 2400 metres, Manner Hill is a brother to STC Peter Pan Stakes and Moonee Valley Oaks winner Dandify and is from the wonderful racer Mannerism. She is a winner of four Group1 events including the Caulfield Cup and a close relation to another Group1 star in Always Welcome.

Manner Hill currently has first crop foals including some from Stratheden mares, while Vitrinite is to have his first two-year-olds race in the coming season. Most of then Vitrinites are very much like him and connections are keen on their prospects.

Vitrinite won seven metropolitan races in the1500-2000 metre range, included three Group performances among his eight seconds and an appearance in the Group1 STC Ranvet stakes in his seven third placings.

He is not only from the all powerful Star Kingdom male line but his sire Lord Ballina is inbred to this giant breeding influence.

A big, robust stallion, a lot like the good Lord Ballina sire Bureaucracy, Vitrinite is bred on a cross of two superior Australian racehorses, being from Centrepiece, a daughter of Centaine. Centrepiece is a half-sister to the Lord Ballina stakes winners Royal Magic (Queensland Derby and Oaks) and Perfect Bound (QTC Grand Prix Stakes).
